The 90’s was an excellent era for movies. Computer generated images had just become a thing, blowing peoples minds with incredible special effects, and summer blockbusters were more popular than they ever had been before. In fact, if you grew up in the 90s you’ll know that it was an era for great movies like never before. Hey, we didn’t say that all 90s movies were good, but they sure were bigger and more impressive than they ever had been before.
Let’s take a look back in time at Hollywood in the 90’s, and learn a few interesting and random facts that you may not have known.
Han Solo turned Down Jurassic Park
It can’t be easy being Harrison Ford. One actor managed to be both Han Solo and Indiana Jones, which means that he has two enormous fan bases to deal with. And, in case there was every any question about it, hard-core Star Wars fans can be a little difficult to deal with. Its all but certain that Harrison Ford can’t go anywhere without being mobbed by fans.
But did you know that Harrison Ford almost had three enormous fan bases to deal with? That’s right, Harrison Ford was offered the leading roll in Jurassic Park, but decided to turn it down. We’re tempted to say he regrets it, but truth be told he probably doesn’t. Han Indiana Jones Solo likely has more money than he knows what to do with, and doesn’t need more attention. Either way, it sure would have been cool to see him face down a dinosaur.
Beauty And The Beast Was Darker
The original fairy tales that Disney movies are based on happen to be pretty damn horrific. What, you didn’t know? Well, it’s true. Most fairy tales are dark, grim stories, originally told as warnings to children about the harsh realities of life. Little Red Riding Hood is, after all, supposed to be a story that helps young ladies avoid ‘wolves.’ For wolves read predatory men.
Another fairy tale that is much darker than shown in Disney is Beauty and the Beast. And, before the Disney movie stared dancing teapots and otherwise fluffy imagery, it was envisioned to be closer to its original subject material. It almost sounds too bizarre, a dark Disney film, but it happens to be true.

Woody Was Going To Be Evil
Toy Story was the first full length film done entirely by computer generated imagery, and landed up being a smash hit that changed the face of Hollywood cinema forever. And little wonder it was a smash hit, with a star studded voice cast, excellent jokes, and a touching tale of a toy discovering and embracing it’s true nature, the 90s movie was almost guaranteed to be a success.
But in the original script things were not as they turned out. It seems that Woody was originally supposed to be a ventriloquist’s dummy. Bizarre? Well, how about this; Woody was supposed to be an evil ventriloquist’s dummy. Thankfully, during the preproduction of the film, the script was changed to make Woody lovable, and the Toy Story we know was born.
No Snow In Home Alone
And last but not least, there was not meant to be any snow in the film Home Alone. So why is there snow all over the place? Well, in the early production of the 90s movie an unexpected blizzard hit, blanketing all the chosen locations in a thick blanket of snow. Given that it was still early in production, snow was simply added to all later scenes, solving a major problem.
