It’s no secret that winter can be incredibly harsh on your skin. Cold winds and dry air can sap moisture from your face and body, leaving your skin flaky, chapped and red. 1. Avoid Taking Long Hot Baths Or Showers
This is our number one tip for preventing dryness during winter! You might think that hot water would be moisturising to your skin, but steamy baths and showers actually work in the opposite way. Over time, they can wash away your skin’s vital sebum barrier and sap moisture out of it, leaving it itchy and prone to dryness.
To prevent this, opt for shorter, room-temperature showers and baths during winter. You can also add a nourishing bath oil or some rich argan or almond oil into your bath water, or use a highly moisturising body wash in the shower. Remember to apply lotion or body butter directly after getting out of the bath or shower too to lock in your skin’s natural moisture before it can evaporate.
2. Modify Your Facial Skin-Care Regimen for the Season
The summer months call for light lotions, silky gel moisturisers and plenty of sunscreen. Winter is a different story. Switch up your skin care routine according to the seasons and opt for richer, more nourishing products in the cooler months. If you have particularly dry skin, products that form an occlusive barrier will help to prevent moisture loss and keep your skin looking dewy.

Drink at least 2 litres of water daily, and remember to add healthy fats and vitamin A-containing foods to your diet as well. Great options include flax seeds, olive oil, nuts and avocados for omega-3 fatty acids, and carrots, butternut squash and broccoli for vitamin A.
6. Exfoliate Dry Skin With A Gentle Body Scrub
Exfoliation is the oldest trick in the book when it comes to maintaining a glowing complexion. Exfoliating products slough away dead skin cells, promote cell regeneration, and reveal your beautiful young skin layer underneath. Feel free to exfoliate your body and face with a gentle body or facial scrub as often as needed for best results.
