Let’s face it; buying a new cellphone every few years is not as essential as it once was. Though, there comes a time when you need to take a step forward, put down some cash, and get yourself a new model. After all, being seen with a model that is more than a few years old is akin to social suicide.
The question is though, with so many new models coming out on a yearly basis, which is the best phone to have in 2018? Furthermore, which is the best phone to have that will not require you to hit the jackpot while playing Roulette just to be able to afford it?
Here is our list of the top 5 phone models in 2018.
Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus
Before you even start this list, you’ll have decided if you’re an Android or Apple fan, or maybe even a Windows fan. We don’t judge either way, and you are entitled to your preferences. As far as smartphones go in 2018, however, we’re leaning towards the Galaxy S9 Plus as the best choice. Keep reading though for an Apple device further down on the list.
The S9 is what can simply be called a collection of the best phone features currently available, featuring an exceptionally large screen, powerful processor, and outstanding camera. Its weakest aspect is the battery, which doesn’t provide as much life as other models, mostly due to the enormous screen. At around $799, it’s the best bang for your buck right now, in our opinion. Note that there is the slightly cheaper, but smaller, S9 too, so don’t get them confused!
Huawei P20 Pro
Widely regarded as the best phone by the manufacturer, the Huawei P20 is another fine choice. It has an absolutely incredible camera, as well as some of the best battery life available. It may not have quite the screen resolution as the S9 plus, but really does deserve a look, especially at a more affordable $750.
You knew it would be on the list, and here it is. The latest iPhone is a killer when it comes to screen quality, and certainly provides all the features expected from an Apple product. Only, it happens to be a great deal more expensive than other options at a somewhat gobsmacking $900. Hence the biggest downfall here is that most simply won’t be willing to hand over the extra cash, just to have an Apple product in their pocket. The main reason the S9 Plus is higher up.
Huawei Mate 10 Pro
From one of the most expensive devices on the market, to one of the most affordable. The Mate 10 Pro is very affordable at around $550, but does have some serious drawbacks. It has no headphone jack for one, which means that it will work with wireless headphones only. However, the battery life of the Mate 10 is incredible, which seems to be a Huawei staple. Note that screen resolution is also slightly less than competitors. It’s a pros and cons sort of deal, with a very tempting price tag.
Last on the list is our wildcard, the OnePlus 6. You probably haven’t heard of it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t an outstanding Android device. With comparable power, screen resolution and camera quality to the Galaxy S9 Plus and iPhone X, the only real con with this phone is that most aren’t aware of the manufacturer, and aren’t willing to take a risk. At $760, this is a world-class phone and a great choice, with buyers needing only to take a step from the familiar in order to reap the benefits. This cheaper option is well worth a look, and certainly at least deserves the once-over.
